22nd October 1999:  Designing low phase noise,  linear tuning VCO's is a specialised business requiring skilled staff,  expensive test equipment and considerable development time.   Depending on the experience of the staff and the development tools available,  development can be a high risk option.   The alternative is to purchase VCO modules,  however high performance modules may be considerably more expensive in the long term than manufacturing your own design.

The current range of VCO designs cover the range 400MHz to 1100MHz with phase noise as low as -120dBc/Hz at 10kHz.
